The X-2 MOD 1 HD Handguard was designed at the request of competitors for a dedicated handguard and barrel nut combo for standard M4 uppers. The primary design goal of the barrel nut was to provide a barrel nut that would not require a shim to install it correctly on the upper reciever. We also designed our new barrel nut to be longer, thicker and stronger to provide even more stability than the Aero Precision barrel nuts. We also incresed the distance between the screw holes as well as increased the screw size from a #8 to a #10 screw to provide an even stronger connecttion between the handguard and the barrel nut. We also removed the screw holes from the handguard from the 6 and 12 oclock position and added another hole at the 3 and 9 positions for more fastener locations to hold the optional weights. These handguards still fit inside the current CMP/NRA Service Rifle Rules and are 2.25" DIA. It still offers better barrel cooling, greater stiffness and a more useable gripping surface than any other handguard on the market. Both the barrel nut and handguard are Type 3 Hard Anodized Flat Black. Handguard, barrel nut, mounting hardwear and sling swivel weight 1 lb 14oz.
Includes: Handguard, Barrel nut, QD Cup, 1.25" or 1.5" Sling swivel (depending on avalibility), mounting hardware and Vibratite.
You must use a thread lubricant Loctite LB8008 (ANTI-SIEZE) on barrel nut to upper reciever threads. Barrel nuts are made from 7075-T6 aluminum, minimum reccomended torque is 30ft-lb. Vibratite to be used on handguard weight screws and handguard to barrel nut mounting screws ONLY.

Any standard 3 pin type armorers wrench should work on either the Aero Barrel nut or the PWD Barrel nut. The PWD Barrel nut has 12 holes for the gas tube to go through and you can use any wrench that has an even multiple of pins below 12 (3, 4, 6 or 12 for example). There are many different brands of wrenches that will work for both, or you can modify a standard armorers wrench so that it has the correct number of pins. Here are a few options if you wanted to purchase a wrench: https://www.wheelertools.com/gunsmithing-tools/wrenches-and-screwdrivers/basic-armorers-wrench/156999.html?srsltid=AfmBOorjRdBaO4prUagmJDd7QSpU76c-nTPEIsBxqUmjGdNjUcGbIjHK

The magpul wrench requires modifications to work with either nut. I know for sure you can modify it to work with both nuts. We use the Magpul wrench for building pretty much all our AR rifles.
